TSC took measures to address this situation by issuing interdictions to the teachers who had not reported to work, alleging that they had abandoned their responsibilities while participating in protests at the TSC headquarters in Nairobi. These teachers were demanding transfers to other regions of the country.
Nancy Macharia, the CEO of TSC, confirmed that the teachers who had not returned to work had been interdicted. She also stated that an ongoing investigation into their conduct was in progress and that due process would be followed.

Reports indicate that the North Eastern region requires more than 2,000 teachers to address the staffing gaps in public primary and secondary schools. This shortage is particularly acute in subjects such as Islamic Religious Education and Physics, which are currently underrepresented. Macharia attributed this deficiency to insufficient resources and expressed that with adequate funding, TSC would be able to recruit more teachers to fill these subject-related shortages.
In summary, the Teacher Service Commission’s dedication to addressing the teacher shortage in North Eastern Kenya is ongoing. They are actively recruiting teachers to ensure that students in the region receive a quality education despite the security challenges. It remains a critical endeavor to meet the educational needs of this area, and with the proper support, TSC aims to bridge the staffing gaps in North Eastern Kenya.
