Kawira Mwangaza Impeachment .Meru County Governor Kawira Mwangaza has been impeached by Meru MCAs for the second time, with 59 out of 69 members voting in favor.
The impeachment motion, brought forth by Majority Leader Evans Mawira, alleges violations of national and county laws.
Mwangaza’s legal team, Danstan Omari and Elias Mutuma, argued that the motion was politically driven and lacked a fair trial.

Nevertheless, the MCAs impeached her on various grounds, including unauthorized staff appointments, naming a road after her husband, and sending relatives to China for medical equipment assessment without approval.
The Senate will now decide on upholding the impeachment, with Mwangaza planning to appeal the decision. If the Senate concurs, a by-election will be held to select a new governor.
The reasons for Governor Kawira Mwangaza’s impeachment include:
1. Creating positions without the approval of Members of County Assembly (MCAs).
2. Illegally naming a road after her husband.
3. Sending relatives to China for the assessment of cancer treatment equipment without proper approval.
4. Vilifying MCs and her deputy, Mutuma M’Ethingia.
5. Irregular appointment of some chief officers without MCAs’ approval.
6. Paying four CEOs for a year for work they had not performed after sending them on compulsory leave.
7. Establishing “traffic marshals” for revenue collection monitoring in Meru town without MCAs’ consent.
8. Violating the law by naming a road after her husband.
