Applying for TSC Maternity Leave: Step by Step
Female teachers have the right to 90 calendar days of maternity leave from the date of confinement. This leave is separate from annual leave. To apply for maternity leave, teachers should submit their request, along with supporting medical documents, to the DEO, MEO, or DCE through their school’s head at least one month before the leave begins.
TSC New Paternity Leave
Male teachers can request paternity leave of up to 10 days during their spouse’s maternity leave. If a teacher has multiple wives, they can take leave based on the spouse whose name appears on the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) Card.
The application for paternity leave should be submitted through the school’s head to the DEO, MEO, or County Education Officer (DCE) along with a letter confirming the spouse’s confinement.

Completing Part I of the Application Form
In Part I of the application form, provide the following information:
– Your full name (Mrs. or Miss)
– Your TSC Number
– Your spouse’s name
– The expected start date of your maternity leave
– Sign and date the application
Visit a Medical Officer
Part II of the application form must be filled out by a medical officer. Schedule a medical examination with a qualified practitioner who will provide a certificate confirming your pregnancy and the expected date of confinement. Ensure that the medical officer has properly stamped, signed, and dated the certificate.

Submitting the Application
Once both Part I and Part II of the application form are complete, submit the application in triplicate to your school’s principal or headteacher. Make sure to do this at least one month before your maternity leave is scheduled to begin.
Waiting for Approval
Your school’s principal or headteacher will review your application and forward it to the TSC County Director for approval. The approval process may take some time, so it’s crucial to submit your application well in advance.
Maternity Leave Period
If your application is approved by TSC, you will be granted three months of maternity leave, starting from the date specified in your application and medical certificate.
Important Notes:
– A teacher applying for maternity leave won’t be eligible for annual leave in the same year.
