Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has announced that the results for the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams will be out by the end of next week. The marking process is already complete, and there are plans to conduct Form One placements before Christmas, allowing students to start Form One by the third week of January. This early release aims to give parents ample time to prepare for their children’s admission.
The exams, held between October 30 and November 1, concluded smoothly with minimal incidents of malpractice. Out of the 1,415,315 candidates, only six attempts to cheat were reported, showcasing the overall integrity of the examination process.

This year’s cohort marks the end of the 8-4-4 curriculum, which has been in place for 38 years since 1985. The ministry is phasing out this system, and the number of candidates this year is the highest ever recorded. The move signifies a shift in the education landscape as the country transitions to new educational approaches.
For the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams, which will end this week, there are 903,260 candidates. Machogu assured that the ministry is taking extra precautions to ensure credible results, including increased security measures in the distribution and collection of exam papers.

The ministry’s commitment to fairness is evident in the nationwide application of rules and regulations, affecting all 10,651 exam centers. These measures aim to prevent exam malpractices and ensure the integrity of the examination process.
Machogu emphasized that the ministry’s focus is not targeting any specific community, county, or school but rather applying regulations uniformly across the country. The goal is to deliver reliable and credible results for both KCPE and KCSE exams.
